Entry 005: Curtain of the Dark Ones
Now we're getting into Yu-Gi-Oh's more bizarre monster concepts! Curtain of the Dark Ones here is seemingly a living curtain that has a pair of monstrous, yet humanoid hands sticking out of it. Is this curtain a portal to a pocket dimension with a monster inside it? Are these the hands of the spellcaster who created this curtain? All questions that will probably never get answers! But the idea is definitely so abstract with a tinge of mystery to it that it feels like an idea for an SCP.
Other media had to get creative when portraying this monster, like the anime that rather straightforwardly just made it a blanket with some arms sticking out just like the card would suggest.
Forbidden Memories, the PS1 game, took a few liberties and portrayed the monster as an animated cloak with just some arms. I think it kind of subverts the concept, which is why I prefer the other ideas.
Duelist of the Roses, the PS2 game, took yet even more liberties and presented the monster as a sentient doorway with a curtain over it and the arms emerge from behind it. The only thing I don't like about this incarnation is the single eye on top. While definitely appreciate a cycloptic monster, it kind of takes away from the strangeness of the concept when you can just look at this thing and already know it's a monster before the curtain's even opened up! If the eye wasn't there, we'd probably be looking at a perfect version of this thing. But even with the eye, it looks pretty rad!
