Entry 010: Firegrass Dyad
Plant is another Yu-Gi-Oh type that produces a lot of interesting monsters, and Firegrass is no exception to them! This red beat-like plant with a grimace is oddly adorable, in a non-conventional kinda way. I also dig the two Bellsprout-like "flowers" growing from its head, both of them with faces of their own. While it is still very much in the realm of giving plant monsters faces, it embarrasses the very strange nature of plant anatomy. To a point where I almost want to read the two faces are merely leaves that happen to have eyes and nothing else, and the beat-like body is the actual plant, much like how the main body of a beat is its roots.
I do kinda wish the "Fire" aspect was played up more, cause we're kind of just left to believe it's got fire powers with nothing physically really eluding to such. Either way, I dig this thing and the pumpkin-esque mandrake vibes it gives off. Looks a lot like it could pass as a Zelda enemy, too.
Firegrass is another monster with a recolor, and this one I feel detracts the design a bit in a couple ways. One in that its colors are a bit more typical for a plant, and the way the eyes are shaded just make it look like it's got pupils. I don't THINK that's intentional, but that's still what it looks like, and I kinda prefer this thing with featureless, glossy eyes.
