Let's Talk About Pokemon - Bloodmoon Ursaluna

When the glow of the blood-stained moon shines upon the land...

Bloodmoon Ursaluna:

With the main game's Pokemon done with, we're finally moving onto the real last leg of Gen 9 (until Z-A happens) and meeting with the new Pokemon introduced via DLC. And since we like to go in Pokedex order here, we're starting with an out-of-left-field new form for Ursaluna of all Pokemon. Kitakami, the region in the first section of DLC, is home to fables about an especially monstrous Ursaluna with a blood-red moon marking. And it's a pretty decently cool alternative to Ursaluna, mainly featuring a new stat spread and a unique move in Blood Moon.

Apart from the big, obvious red button on its forehead now, its face is now more caked in mud than its limbs, and the mud looks a bit more like a slightly dried-out clay, with the way it cracks in parts over its face. Said cracks being used to give the illusion of one of its eyes - the one in shadow - having a dramatic scar over it.

But honestly, the ideas Bloodmoon Ursaluna gives me is more exciting than Bloodmoon Ursaluna itself. Because I find the idea of one-of-a-kind variants of existing Pokemon that aren't necessarily "Legendary" but are still treated with the cadence of a "Legendary" is really cool. I'd kinda just love to see that idea expanded to have there be unique variations of Pokemon that you could catch if you did the open-world sleuthing necessary to track one down. Like, imagine a golden, more elaborate-looking Chandelure, or hell, that damn Crystal Onix Pokeboomers have wanted to be in the games since its inception. Like Pokemon's version of unique monsters from Xenoblade.

Personal Score: 7/10
