Let's Talk About Pokemon - Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark

If I had a nickel for every time a favorite fox Pokemon of mine got a white regional form, we'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?

Hisuian Zorua:

So, of course, imagine Vixi's delight when her favorite Pokemon of all time gets a shiny new regional variant!! AND... on one hand it's kind of disappointing that there honestly isn't a ton to comment on here, but maybe it's a good thing they didn't go wildly changing it. It keeps most of its Zorua-ey goodness that way.

Zorua in Hisui are apparently seen as bad omens, so they were driven into the snowy north where they couldn't survive and all died, becoming Normal/Ghost type and developing a hatred of humans. And they're completely justified!!! Who the HECK decided Zoruas are evil creatures!!! Y'all are getting what's coming to you when these little things are wishing you went to hell!!

And that typing is interesting, in that it interacts really well with Zorua's ability Illusion, where the typing Normal/Ghost grants a whopping THREE immunities! What's bizarre then is that they introduce this very ability-dependent Pokemon in a game where Abilities were cut. Their inclusion almost feels like Abilities where meant to be in Legends Arceus but got taken out for one reason or another. They still have values in their metadata that is tied to the ability Illusion though, so assumedly they'll have Illusion once you're allowed to transfer them to Gen 9 or something.

Design-wise is where things kinda blend in with the Zorua of old. It's a little different, in that it has a more meek, sad-looking face and its head-tuft and tail are big and wispier. It's otherwise just a white and red Zorua, which isn't a bad color scheme to go for at all. It's really cool and striking! Again, REALLY wish we had more to say about it but. It's Zorua! A different flavor of Zorua!

I just want to believe in hope, y'know?

Hisuian Zoroark:

These two very much feel like an Alolan Vulpix/Ninetales situation. While having a different flavor of a favorite Pokemon is neat and all, it's nothing earth-shattering, but their evolution actually got a decent improvement!

Regular Zoroark is still rad as hell, but Hisuian Zoroark has that stylistic flare that regular Zoroark felt like it was missing. And in fact, it turns one of our major complaints about Zoroark into a positive! Zoroark felt like it was a little too thin for our liking, but when Hisuian Zoroark is a wispy, ghostly, frostbite-fox, the thinness actually suits it more!

It's also REALLY cool how Zoroark's hair and even some of its body is just so unkempt looking, flowing but in a crooked kind of way that gives it a very "unhinged" kind of feel to it. The flowy bits just coming off of its body also really serves to give it a cool ethereal look, like the thing is just an apparition that can fade from view at any moment. And the thing's EYES are just so much cooler!! The "unhinged creature" look suits Zoroark SO damn well.

Personal Score: 10/10
