285: Shroomish

I guess so long as Gen 3's in a re-use concepts mood, they decide to throw another mushroom Pokemon at us. This time, as a rather played-straight Goomba-esque monster that doesn't quite look like any mushroom irl but at least looks enough like one to pass. Shroomish is cute for what it is, and the grouchy expression is a funny bit of personality added to it. It's just otherwise not got much to comment on.

Why am I given the punchy type, when I don't have any arms to punch with?!

286: Breloom

Breloom, on the other hand, is a true oddball. Had they not been next to each other in the Pokedex and have mushroomy names, you'd probably swear these two had nothing to do with each other. How's this lil mushroom guy become this... mushroom... kangaroo? Whatever Breloom is, it's fun. Its little sock puppet head is adorable, and once more with fake eyeballs! This time in the form of little "warts" on top of its shroomy head. Breloom's a design that gets most of its point from being decently executed and having there not really be anything else like it out there.

To add to the weirdness, it also picks up the Fighting type for the at-the-time unique typing of Grass/Fighting. What denotes it as "fighting" we're not so sure, other than again, its generally kangaroo-like shape. I guess it's also fitting enough just given how oddly dangerous-looking its body is, which only makes its little sock puppet head even funnier.
