125: Electabuzz

Electabuzz is somehow one I forget about quite a lot, despite how cool it is. Maybe its because I like both of its evolutionary stages just a little bit better. They just had a bit more interesting a theme going on. But, about Electabuzz. Like quite a few Pokemon we've covered in Gen 1, Electabuzz is mostly just “Lightning: The Monster.” It's a big, yellow creature with features both resembling an ape and a tiger. The lightning bolt marking on its chest is a little on the nose, but sure.

I do also like how it has a number of Raijin or Thunder Oni aesthetics worked into the design in clever ways, namely its tiger fur, horns, and even antennae that look like a pair of drum sticks while still passing like they're appendages used for conducting electricity. While it is very much not a "me" Pokemon, it's hard to deny there's a lot of cool ingredients in this design!
