Let's Talk About Pokemon - Ledyba and Ledian

Need a hand? I got plenty.

165: Ledyba

Ladybirds are a fairly obvious bug that wasn't in Gen 1, so it's no shock it made it into Pokemon so early on. Ledyba is pleasant enough design, a little ladybug creature with almost a perfect sphere for a body and little cartoon gloves for hands, which end up making it look like it wouldn't be too out of place in a Nick Jr. show. It is also one of the rare Bug type Pokemon to have the correct number of legs! Yeah, Ledyba of all things, haha.

Open your cosmic mind!

166: Ledian

Ledian is quite the departure from Ledyba, but this time for the better! Ladybirds tend to be associated with space and stars in Japan, simply because their spots are called "stars" over there. As such Ledian gets ahold of the move Comet Punch, and also a look that overall gives it something of a stereotypical alien vibe, with the oversized head and glossy, black eyes. Combining those traits with an insect is lowkey genius, to be honest. Ledian is overall fairly nice, I just wish they had just a wee bit more going for it, cause its body isn't super amazing design-wise, at least beyond being a perfectly fine cartoon insect's body. It feels like Ledians' head alone is carrying the whole design.

Personal Score: 6.5/10
