Let's Talk About Yu-Gi-Oh! - Hourglass of Life

Entry 020: Hourglass of Life Times Two

I know they say time flies, but this is ridiculous!

If Pokemon had a tendency to introduce monsters that were living objects, Yu-Gi-Oh feels more like it introduces objects that happen to be monsters, a lot of the time. This Fairy type is much more interesting to me than Petit Angel, because of how lowkey abstract it is. Not necessarily in a biblically-accurate angel kind of way, but still in a strangely otherworldy kind of holy way, which is a look I'm admittedly a sucker for. Just look at the Duel Masters's Light Civilization, which was portrayed as an angelic alien race but apparently their definition of "angel" is

...Interesting! Man, I should at least do a one-off of Duel Masters one of these days too.

And I guess while I'm at it with comparisons, even the simple visual of an hourglass with angel wings is really bringing Angel Star from Kingdom Hearts to mind, which is another "creepy" angel design I really like.

Anyway though, I'm getting ahead of myself. Point is, living holy trinket is a cool idea for an angelic creature and I'm not immune to the general aesthetic cues I pick up from it.

Now we just need an Hourglass of Power and Wisdom...

And I suppose this variant is meant to be some "fallen" version, with it having dark colored wings? Works well enough I suppose, though I do like the dark, dull tones being hyper contrasted with the bright gold sand inside its body.

Personal Score: 7.5/10
