Entry 021: Haniwa, Two Stones

Haniwaaaaaaaaaaaaaah?!?

Here's a cute, weird fella. This seeming statue figure turned living creature also has odd, worm-like tubes around its body. Is that also made of stone? Possibly, but still an odd feature that stands out, especially since it seems to wear it like pants. Either way, I'm always a sucker for "face in shadow with only visible facial features being glowing dot eyes". It still has the suggestion of a face in the stone carvings, and it's such an adorably sad face! Aww! Who made the rock buddy sad!

The paw-like feet is also a feature that's stuck out to me as an odd choice, since as nothing else on this thing is very animalistic at all. Unless of course the whole thing is a reference to some Japanese mythology thing and it's just going over my head; the design of this thing is pretty close to Clancers from Mischief Makers and whether it's a reference or if they're both referencing the same thing, or if it's even just coincidence, is not something I know for sure.

When you realize you're a stick of lipstick

Then comes "Rock Spirit", which is the same but painted red. I kinda prefer the original earthly tones, if I'm being honest, and the red for this design doesn't really do it for me for some reason. Looks a little too bright and forward to be a sad little statue critter.
