216: Teddiursa

A bear was one of the animals most curiously missing from Gen 1, but Teddiursa here feels like it's present mostly to be a checkmark on a list. It's not BAD by any means, it fulfills the "be cute" part of its quota, and not all Pokemon needs to be WILD in design, but Teddiursa is still kind of just in the category of "it's fine by virtue of being simple and nothing else." The crescent moon on its head is an interesting touch, but nothing is really done with it beyond a vague "ursa minor" reference.

217: Ursaring

And Ursaring is... oddly even more normal, just sporting a ring on its stomach and nothing else special about it. (We GUESS that's supposed to be a lunar eclipse...? A new moon?) It's there if you're just plain a fan of bears, and sure, bears are neat we guess. But we do kinda wish this fictional one had a bit more going for it. It's just hard to be impressed when there's so many neat things that can be done with a cartoon bear, and this just kind of elects to be the most "bare" cartoon bear we've ever seen.
