342: Blissey

One final evolution to end off the Gen and its for Chansey of all Pokemon. Chansey was pretty cute in a lot of very usual ways, but it was also cute in decently unusual ways too. Which is why we feel like Blissey overall is a bit of a downgrade. It's a lot rounder and makes a lot more of its shape language about soft shapes so it feels so predictable.

An arguement could be made that it's more effective at being soft and cute because of the whole "bouba and kiki" effect, but art has guidelines more than it has set-in-stone rules. Thus is the fate of a subjective medium! But yeah, Blissey just feels cute in a very given-to-it kinda way rather than feeling earned. It also just feels very unnecessary.

It barely looks that different from Chansey, almost looking more like a scrapped design for it rather than an evolution. It isn't even conceptually that different. It cares for eggs motherlier and heals Pokemon healthier or something? All this just combines to make Blissey feel like nothing more than a far less interesting version of Chansey.
