230: Kingdra

And here, tragically, is our one and only Dragon type of the generation, and it's an evolution of Seadra on top of that. We know this was still back when Dragon type was treated as a rarity, but it still seems a little anti-climactic. Either way though, Kingdra's gone full sea dragon on the Horsea line, going for a very different feel with its smoother, sleeker shapes and wavy design features. Kingdra is so odd because every bit of its head and fin is really cool, and lovingly naturalistic in shape. But then you pan down to the rest of it and it just... kind of looks like it's been plonked onto the wrong body a bit?

Like, Horsea and Seadra are cool and all, but something about Kingdra's inclusion in the line is just off. Kingdra seemingly takes inspiration from the Weedy Sea Dragon (Not the same thing as the Leafy Sea Dragon, that's Dragalge) and it probably would've looked neater how it been a bit more shaped like one. Something could've been neatly done with combining a sea dragon's aspects with that of a draconic sea serpent, but Kingdra's just kind of tied to being the evolution of Seadra so it has to have a similar body plan. Thus is the sad fate of "better not introduce two sea horse lines two games in a row", I guess.
