Let's Talk About Pokemon - Makuhita and Hariyama

No, Makuhita, you're not going to be as popular as Pikachu

296: Makuhita

Suppose one spot that's been missing from the fighting type has been Sumo Wrestling, so here's a sumo wrestling Pokemon. And in all honesty, that's about all there is to say about Makuhita. The only real fun catch to the design is its sack-like proportions combined with a topknot that looks like the handles of a sack tied up but that's kinda it.

Personal Score: 5/10

Uh oh! Big!

297: Hariyama

Then there's this strange nonsense. Like, nah, Hariyama's kinda just bad. On one hand, it's got the sumo wrestling angle going on with it, and it's got the body shape for it. And in general, we like to highlight when fatness is presented as a cool thing rather than "haha funny dumpy thing" in a monster design, so it has that much going for it. But its face is just a bunch of shapes clumsily piled on top of each other, and it has roundish proportions heavily clashed with its big, square fingers and fringe skirt thing. Its design in general just feels so clumsy, and not in any way that feels intentional.

Doesn't help that it's such a "checkmark" design. It's here to be a sumo Pokemon and little else.

Personal Score: 3/10
