Let's Talk About Pokemon - Lunatone and Solrock

Night of the Final Day - 12 Hours Remain

337: Lunatone

These version-exclusive pairs come in pairs, we guess. But these are easily the most exciting ones to come out of this generation yet! These two are rock creatures with Psychic powers from space, said to have just turned up on Poke-Earth one day after a meteor strike. Spooky opening!

Out of the two, Lunatone is our favorite, just because moon-theming is cool no matter where it is. (As you could imagine from a cosmic space horse named Luna! Me and Lunatone just have so much in common!) Lunatone is shaped like a cartoon crescent moon, lightly covered in little craters, and a huge, eerie red eye peering from the deepest crater. And something about adding a weird beak-like appendage solidifies it as indeed a living thing, but without making it too familiar that it takes away from its alien strangeness. All this really adds up for thing being one of the more Halloweeny Pokemon out there, especially for a non-Ghost-type.

Dawn of a New Day

338: Solrock

Of course, it gets a sun-themed counterpart, but you'd expect a sun-themed variant of a creepy sentient moon-rock to be a little less creepy, yet it has an arguably colder, more emotionless expression than Lunatone does. You'd think a sun creature would be more warm and welcoming!

The stony unevenness of Solrock is really cool too, with all the "sunspots" and rocky rays, none of which are repeated in shape. Especially with how not all of them are even the same length. Really gives it an authentic "made of rock" look!

Both of these meteor fellas are really cool in a bizarre, alien sort of way, where they sincerely feel otherworldly. Like they should be man-made Pokemon, yet they're not. Or are they? Perhaps they're man-made Pokemon on a completely different planet, as living alien constructs! Or are they simply inhabitants of space itself? Deliberately voyaging across the cosmos on asteroids and comets that may one day land them on a planet. Maybe not, they're pretty content on keeping them as just some weird space rocks, but it's a fun thought.

Personal Score: 9/10
