Let's Talk About Pokemon - Numel and Camerupt

Aw shoot, I missed hump day

322: Numel

What an adorable baby camel! This is our first Ground/Fire type, and it's such a cool application of the animal and the typing! Camel humps are thought to be water stores, but that's entirely a pop culture thing. Camel humps actually store excess fat, which is still why they can go long periods without eating or drinking; it simply converts this fat store into energy as needed. BUT for the purpose of a fictional creature, replacing the "water storage" thing with LAVA storage while the hump itself is an active volcano, including a little "blowhole" to shoot lava out of, is hilariously genius.

Numel itself is adorable too! It's comically stumpy for a camel, which is already adorable, but the laid-back/tired face is also just as precious. It's everything there is to love about a stylized camel. And props for a fairly unique type combo for a fire type! Not even any orange or red in sight.

323: Camerupt

Gen 3 seems to have a pretty rampant problem with its evos being nice, but not nearly as charming as it's unevolved form. Camerupt is still plenty goofy though, still being stumpy for a camel, though we might've preferred it more actual-camel-shaped. The two humps are also a fun touch. Just, what's with the blue rings? They're such an out-of-place feature, we're hardly sure what it's meant to be.

Krakatoa!!

Mega Camerupt:

Yet another Pokemon with a Mega, and yet another one that feels like it could've been classed as it's own traditional evolution. Either way, its shape gets even more extreme, just becoming entirely volcano-shaped, including the long hair it has. And props for getting rid of the needless rings and replacing them with a space for the lava pouring out of its hump to pool. Solid Mega!

Personal Score: 7.5/10
