Let's Talk About Pokemon - Chimecho

Ding, fries are done. Ding, fries are done.

358: Chimecho

Because Gen 3 can't just seem to get enough of these, here's yet another got darn single-stage Pokemon that's oddly weak and frail. For real, it feels weird only just now noticing how many of these are in this Gen in particular.

Chimecho itself is an oddly nice design, being a Japanese wind chime in the form of a somewhat jellyfish-esque creature. At least, that's the impression we get from the orbular body with a flowy, dangling appendage underneath it. The yellow thing on top is apparently a sucker it uses to hang from things and fulfill its "windchime" look. We thought it would be cool if it was a trap predator; that the dangling appendage underneath it ensnared those that get caught in it and then it draws them into its body, but no. Instead, Chimecho is a Pokemon known for its healing abilities. The white and red pattern is neat, at least. Chimecho's overall just pleasant, but that's all there is to it, at least beyond a slightly odd body plan.

We also find it really funny how this Pokemon is also really notorious for being stupidly rare, being hidden as a 1% encounter rate in a single, VERY remote room where the grass patches are kinda hidden to begin with. Chimecho's so hidden away that we regularly see people shocked to learn Chimecho is a Gen 3 Pokemon and not a Gen 4 Pokemon, with its baby form Chingling being much easier to find in those games.

Personal Score: 6.5/10
