Let's Talk About Pokemon - Fidough and Dachsbun

926: Fidough

Every region's gotta have its dog, and Fidough sure is that dog. It's at least conceptually a lot stranger, with it being a puppy made of bread dough. At least, maybe? The Pokedex kinda dodges confirming whether or not this is just an animal with dough-like qualities to its skin or if it is actually, physically made of dough somehow. Though it apparently has yeast breath. However that works.

This feels like a Pokemon that had its name thought up first and was designed around it. Maybe it's simply because it's such a dad-humor pun that's making us say that, but yeah. Whatever the case may be, it's nice that this Pokemon is just sort of a little "ugly" in spots. It's still cute, clearly, but it has rolls and lumps. And not even like, fat rolls, just. A weirdly lumpy back. As well as the odd little face. It may not be our thing very much, but this definitely keeps it from being another boring design like Sprigatito.

Put puppy in the oven for 26 levels, or until golden-brown

927: Dachsbun

And naturally, Fidough's evolution rather predictably becomes a golden-browned pup. And see, we were willing to operate under the assumption Fidough was just a hairless dog, but then Dachsbun here has fuzz amongst its more bread-like bits. Only raising more questions. Like "is that meant to be mold?" ...Just us?

That said, it is kinda cute how hair poofs out of its donut-like tail like it's overflowing with cream. And how its paws aren't actually paws, but rather nubs with paw markings on them as if that's where the surface of the bread split when it expanded.

It also comes with the unique ability Well-Baked Body, making this Pokemon immune to Fire moves, and being hit by one instead boosts its defense a bunch. Kinda makes me wish these two were Fairy/Grass rather than just Fairy. That'd make its bread-like qualities make a bit more sense, if it was just MADE of wheat! There's plenty of Pokemon in the dex that are half-plant, half-animal. It'd be far from the weirdest thing.

Anyway, these two are fine. This series has far more boring dogs than these.

Personal Score: 6.5/10
