Let's Talk About Pokemon - Wiglett and Wugtrio

960: Wiglett

Our, sadly, only other convergent Pokemon is Wiglett. Obviously meant to be a Diglett look-alike, but rather than being a ground-dwelling cartoon mole, it's now a sand-dwelling noodly garden eel! And what an inspired way to reimagine Diglett as another animal!

It's honestly otherwise kinda hard to come up with words for Wiglett, since like Diglett, it's a decidedly simple design. But unlike Diglett, we do feel like Wiglett just comes with that extra little bit of fun that makes us like it a lot better. Like, Diglett's got the wack-a-mole thing going on, sure, but it's still a design so annoyingly void of something to get attached to.

Wiglett simply elongates Diglett, turns it white, and gives it a much noodlier, floppier set of animations that has a lot more of its personality come across, and it's just that much more fun of a critter for it.

Many doors, yes?

961: Wugtrio

And like Toedscool into Toedscruel, Wiglett becomes Wugtrio. Three of 'em get together, invert colors, and inhabit a little rocky undersea den to make it a little more visually distinct from Wiglett. Nice! Though it feels odd this doesn't upgrade it to a Water/Rock type, but we guess convergent evos, at least for now, are supposed to have the same number of types as their contemporary form.

While we do like Wiglett a little better, Wugtrio is a load of fun too. Again, a little beyond description beyond what's been said already just due to their simplicity, but heck. Turning those Gen-1 goofballs into little eels is a lot of fun.

We just hope future gens will continue the trend of having convergent Pokemon, cause it's a super cool idea that definitely deserves to be explored more. As one can see with all the Fakemon inspired by the concept floating around! It's understandable that there's only two of them this time; already a bit of a hard ask to make what is, in essence, a redo Pokemon and give it a new Dex number. But regardless, hope there's more in the future! Or maybe even in the DLC!

Personal Score: 7.5/10
