Duuuude, my house is a donut

Hisuian Sliggoo:

We guess Gen 6 is officially old enough to feel included on the whole Regional Form thing! And they hit it with the region's psuedo-legendary of all Pokemon? That's certainly a surprise. Here of all things we have Sliggoo with a funny little metal shell that's so heavy it just sits in it! It's also apparently mellowed out, with it having a much more tired expression. Having the shell lie on its side while the snail itself pokes out of a hole on the top is an interesting way to pull off a snail design, just kind of wish it wasn't Sliggoo. This Sliggoo is plenty perfect, but it's also a design building off of something that was already also perfect. Couldn't Slugma have gotten some love here? A Fire/Steel typing wouldn't have been astronomically better, but it'd be better than Fire/Rock.

Sometimes I feel like this shell just weighs me down.

Hisuian Goodra:

...HMMMMM...

On one hand, I don't think we could have reasonably ever expected Goodra to change that much, given its popularity and status. If they had changed the thing drastically, it'd probably have ended up on "Top 10 most disappointing regional forms" lists because god forbid a design be anything other than peak cuteness.

But at the same time, MAN it's so much closer to what we'd want out of Goodra. We already have a bit of a weird relationship with Goodra where we love it from the simple angle of "cute, big things are nice" but it's also disappointing as a follow-up to the much more adorable Sliggoo, but now this thing just makes it even weirder. They add one huge half to the equation that would've made Goodra PERFECT but they didn't do the other half and give it a more fun face. The tired/mellowed out look is still funny, sure, but it's still not the adorable dot-eyes and wobbly mouth its previous two forms had.

It's also a little disappointing its shell is considerably more "normal" than Sliggoo's, but it's still a far cry more interesting than regular Goodra. It feels MUCH more fulfilling as a "snail that's also a dragon" Pokemon, now including a comically oversized shell that it even ducks into. It's like a dragon that carries its lair on its back! Original Goodra always felt a little ashamed that it was a snail-dragon, and this one just embraces it! Just like that!

In the end it's a design with not a ton to comment on since it's not changed a TON, but at the same time beggars can't be choosers, I suppose.
