995: Iron Thorns
Other than maybe Jugulis, Thorns here feels like the most straightforward of the Futures. But I feel like if anyone is owed a played-straight robotization, it's Tyranitar. Iron Thorns is, yeah. A Tyranitar but with a chrome finish. Called "Thorns" because of the electric or hard-light spikes emitting from its back that can be turned off like Typhlosion's fire. Guess that's where it earns the Rock/Electric typing. It's simple but still cool, feeling a lot like a Mecha Tyranitar 2 just like how there was a Mecha Godzilla 2. Just my bugbear being if we're only getting so many Robomons, maybe we shouldn't get one that's a repeat of a concept that already existed in the franchise.
It's cool, even if it isn't exactly blowing my mind. My main hub-bub about it is that said Mecha Tyranitar is already a cooler design than this, leaning a bit further into that retro-sci-fi aesthetic I would've much rather these future paradoxes have been. But sure, Iron Thorns neat, if painfully straightforward. If it was an overpriced hunk of plastic like Godzilla collectable figurines tend to be, I would be tempted.
