120: Staryu
These two are something of sleeper-likes to me. Staryu here is pretty strange looking by Pokemon standards, namely it being one of very few Pokemon that have no obvious eyes, let alone no face. The closest thing it has to any facial features is the gem in the center, which seems to be more of a heart-like organ if the Pokedex is to be believed. Staryu does seem to emote with it in the anime, so there is that.
My one complaint is the metalic-looking bits around said gem not being very organic looking, so I wish it just looked a bit closer to maybe starfish skin in overall texture, but still, it's not even that hard of a dealbreaker for me.
121: Starmie
Starmie looks a bit cooler despite how little it actually changes. The color scheme of purple, gold, and red pops so much compared to most Gen 1 color schemes. It just looks a bit neater, which I can appreciate for a Pokemon so humbly changed.
Starmie also looks like two starfish glued together, both halves apparently able to spin independently. It also strangely enough picks up the Psychic typing, which is odd since you'd think Staryu would've hard that type too, but for some reason it doesn't. The gem in its center is also a lot prettier looking, but it also evidently sends signals into space with it. Is it possible that its somewhat unnatural appearance and Psychic typing (the closest we have to a "Cosmic" or "Space" type,) meant to hint at possible extraterrestrial origins? Maybe! It IS a star, so it wouldn't be out of the question.
