186: Politoed

Another of the past-gen evolutions sprinkled across Gen 2, Politoed acts as a split evolution for Poliwhirl. Like all the others so far, it's kind of weird to me that it's related to the line in the first place. It could've easily passed as another, completely new frog Pokemon with no ties to Gen 1.

That said though, it's got a few more visual ties to its previous stage than Bellossom or Crobat to theirs. Namely, it still has the spiral shape in its stomach, and even includes a cute single little “hair” on its head. And hey, I can forgive its color change since some tadpoles do change color as they grow into frogs. The only downside is that it's a lot more played-straight of a frog design, but still not bad by any means.
