Let's Talk About Yu-Gi-Oh! - Fiend's Hand

Yeah, some Yu-Gi-Oh monsters get pretty extreme looking, extreme enough to warrant content warnings beforehand. So...

Entry 008: Fiend's Hand

Lost in the sauce

Cause yeah, THAT'S not unsettling at all! Fiend's Hand here is actually our first Zombie type monster, aside from the recolored Great Mammoth. As I'm sure you'd expect from a connoisseur of Halloween such as myself, Zombie is up there as one of my favorite types in Yu-Gi-Oh. It's not just limited to undead creatures, but even includes ghosts and... THIS weird thing, an odd amalgamation of hands emerging from what appears to be a pool of blood, likely toned down in color to make it past censors. It's even one of the cards that never physically made it to the west, only appearing in games, but even then, was eventually recolored to be green to dodge the material altogether.

Its description when translated to English reads "Arms that reach out from the Swamp of Chaos to drag down the damned." So somehow that redish pool IS just a swamp? In a way, that almost makes it more terrifying on concept. But then one of the video games pulls a fast one and drops this on us...

Duelist of the Roses was rated "E", by the way.

...THIS thing, which is quite unambiguously a blob of flesh and blood with even more fingers poking out of it, and now with eyes and mouths thrown in, just as a treat. You know, for kids! Though that said, 11-year-old me always loved looking at the model viewer in Duelist of the Roses, and this is one of the monsters I stared at constantly, just in utter fascination of how that was a thing someone came up with.

While the creature itself is perhaps a little too over-the-top to be in a Silent Hill game itself, it totally feels like Konami had someone on the Silent Hill team come over to design a monster, and the complete gross, unwholesome vibes it gives off makes it a really effective horror monster. Because much like Silent Hill monsters, you can stare at it for quite some time and STILL not be entirely sure of what the heck is even its deal.

Fiend's Hand normally probably would've just gotten a 7/10, but DotR's version in particular is just fucked up enough to raise it higher than that.

Personal Score: 8.5/10
