211: Qwilfish

And here it is. Quite possibly the most unfortunate Pokemon in the entire series. Released as a mediocre at best standalone Pokemon with nothing really to its name other than it is, at least at current, the only blowfish Pokemon. It has since received NO new evolution, NO new Mega form, NO Regional Variant, NO Gigantamax, NO Regional Evolution, NOTHING. It's thoroughly a Pokemon that is just remarkable for how unremarkable it is. At least Luvdisc gets to hold one of the most useful trading items in the game, Qwilfish is just very. There.

And possibly the saddest part is that its design isn't even a hidden gem like Paras or Pineco or anything. It's mostly just a very cartoony blowfish with a grumpy demeanor and that's about all there is to it. Maybe it's enough to keep it from being outright boring, but it still feels a bit phoned-in. Which is a shame, because there's a lot of cool things you could do with a pufferfish Pokemon, like a Psychic type that can expand its brain, or even just giving it the appearance of a sea mine and a chain-like tail.

We've always waited with bated breath for Qwilfish to get SOMETHING, but that day sadly just hasn't come yet, and if it wasn't for still somehow consistently appearing natively in the regions, we'd swear Gamefreak has just forgotten the poor thing. (Though, somehow the fact that they apparently haven't kind of makes its predicament sadder.)

Qwilfish gets half a point out of pitty alone.
