309: Electrike

Electrike might just be the least interesting Pokemon this Gen so far. Not necessarily as in "it's bad", but just in that this design is so vapid that there's hardly anything to comment on. It's a dog with a weird hairdo and that's it. Boring!

310: Manectric

Manectric feels like it gets a lot closer to resembling something cool at least. It still does extremely typical Electric type things like having loads of spikes, but the aggressiveness of the angles and the funny hairdo is something. That and blue + yellow is a neat color scheme for it, even if Mareep did it first. That more or less feels like Manectric's problem. It could've been a simple yet solid 'mon, but everything about it has been done already in this series.

Mega Manectric:

Well, it's different now! We just dunno about a whole dog being shaped like a lightning bolt. Like, it's funny that they KINDA pulled it off, but... it still feels silly and obvious as a visual motif. Though honestly it does stink that this is just a Mega and not a permanent evolution or something. We don't wanna go on this "planned obsolescence in Pokemon forms is really dumb" rant ALL of the time, but it kinda stings the most when Manectric's best version of itself is likely to only ever be seen in a half-baked XY remake, if ever again.
