Sinnoh's early bird is a little Starling this time, and as per usual, it's about as bird design as bird designs get. Cute enough in its own regard, but it's hardly giving us any material to comment on.
Same goes for Staravia, which is following the Pokemon trend we're used to in turning any songbird into a meaner bird of prey, and Staravia is certainly the middle point between those two extremes. Even so, it's amusing a Pokemon with this goofy, grumpy expression wound up with the ability "Intimidate".
And in turn, Staraptor is indeed the usual "songbird, but reimagined as a predatory hawk or falcon". It's so on the nose it's right there in the name. And Staraptor brings a cool energy to it, and that hair fringe is just cool but also silly enough to be oddly charming. Mostly like this one because stats-wise it kicks an unusual amount of ass for such an early-gams Pokemon.
