986: Brute Bonnet

Definitely one of the more out-there of the Past Paradoxes, Brute Bonnet is Amoongus, but taller and with something of a mossy overgrowth dangling off of its mushroom cap. And whereas Amoongus is a Pokemon with no appendages other than its arms, Bonnet here has four nubby legs, PLUS a tail of all things. Even one of its 'Dex entries describes it as a cross between a mushroom and a dinosaur, as nonsense as such a thing would be. But a good, endearing kind of nonsense.

There's also the possibility that this Paradox actually has an organism origin beyond just "It's bigger, scarier Amoongus"! These are syzygites, a type of parasitic fibrous fungus that is capable of preying on their fellow fungi, growing off of mushroom caps. Which could be what the dangling green "hair" on Bonnet is! So who's to say this isn't a Parasect sorta situation, just with the tables turned and the mushrooms are the ones getting mind-jacked?

That said, this is part of where the whole "past ancestor" thing gets notably nebulous. The Pokedex at large has shrugged over Foongus and Amoongus' resemblance to Pokeballs, being overall non-committal about exactly why this mimicry would happen. That said though, it is a little peculiar how what is supposed to be a Pokemon that is the ancient ancestor of a Pokemon mimicking a modern-day invention, yet it still mimics said modern-day invention? Hmmmmmmmmm.......

That said, maybe that's why Scarlet went out of its way to state that the inventor of modern Pokeballs may have "really liked Foongus", so the chicken did come before the egg in this case. But even then, says that may or may not be true. But I'd still be willing to put that under "suspect."

Personal Rating: 8.5/10
