199: Slowking

You would think Slowking is an evolution of Slowbro, but no. It's a split evolution off of Slowpoke. It basically exists as a “what if” instead of evolving from getting bitten on the tail, what if the Shellder bit onto its head? In which, Shellder's stimulating toxins got injected directly into Slowpoke's brain, causing it to stand upright and “unlock an extraordinary power.” Even though Slowking's and Slowbro's stats are nearly identical.

In any case, Slowking is interesting. The Shellder now forms a bit of a crown, or turban on its head. Complete with a little gem on top. I will say it sells the “Psychic” type aspect of it a lot better than Slowbro does. The neck frill kind of comes out of nowhere, but sure.
