Let's Talk About Yu-Gi-Oh! - Petit Angel

Entry 015: Petit Angel and its Wingman

Fun fact: The halo got censored out of the American print of the card due to an attempt (keyword: attempt) to avoid causing controversy from the use of Christian imagery. This, however, implies that American Petit Angel is going to hell.

I believe this is our first "Fairy" type, but an important note about the Fairy type is that "Fairy" is a localized term for the type. In Japan, it's actually the "Angel" type, which explains why so many Fairy types have a lot of holy imagery to go with them.

Beyond that, Petit Angel is a cute enough design that sadly feels derived from a few different places. It has the overall vibe of a Kirby enemy, while also having a little bit of energy of a baby Digimon too. Anyway, all this to say while not bad, Petit Angel isn't terribly unique.

This here is Shining Friendship. He'll be your escort... out of this life!

Shining Friendship here almost feels like an upgrade solely because these tiny cherub-esque creatures tend to not come in bright green. But even then, I can still point to things like Angel/Hero Chao from the Sonic series and say it did it better. I swear I don't dislike the thing, it's just not one of those monsters I have a ton to say about, other than some amusing censorship stuff and introducing the concept of the Fairy type.

Personal Score: 5.5/10
